Very happy to welcome Amy Bonner a local GP working within the Ribblesdale Community Partnership. Amy’s passion lies in lifestyle medicine, nutrition, exercise, stress relief and healthy longevity in general. She will be chatting about the work she’s does and lifestyle advice more specifically related to cancer survivorship. All Welcome.

Have confidence that you know which shapes & colours suit you & shop with ease.

Claire is an integrative counsellor based at Clitheroe Psychotherapy Centre and has worked in wellbeing and mental health for the whole of her career. She is also a clinical hypnotherapist, a life coach and meditation trainer and will be chatting about what she does and how she can help. All Welcome.

Monday 1st April we are happy to welcome Debi Hawkins Manager at Cancer Support Yorkshire - Skipton Centre.

Debi and her team are also celebrating their 5th Birthday this year and Debi will chat about how they started and the range of services, groups, classes and activities they offer for men and women. All Welcome.

Mel is a Clinical/sports nutritionist and will be coming to chat about the close relationship between diet, lifestyle choices and breast cancer. The more specific changes we can make to improve our health and impact recovery and prevention. All Welcome.

We are very happy to welcome back Helen Foster from the Body Shop who will be coming to demonstrate, chat and sell all things gorgeous. As well as starting your Christmas shopping early with no doubt brilliant discounts and offers you’ll be helping to fundraise for group as a percentage of all proceeds will be donated back to RVBFs.

Monday 6th August 7pm. We are very happy to welcome Jane Richmond a full time professional artiest living in Burnley.

Jane paints mainly acrylics and oils and is a ceramic sculptor. She also does silk painting which is a much more delicate technique to her larger scale flower paintings. She loves to use bright bold colours and gives what is often thought of a twee and hackneyed artistic subjects a more contemporary twist. Jane trained as a teacher but changed career 4 yrs ago.
This evening Jane will introduce herself, show some examples of her work and have a chat with us about the sort of sessions we might like to do over the next few months on a Monday afternoon. All Welcome.

Monday 4th June 7pm Danielle Kay Medical Herbalist MNIMH BSc (Hon)

Danielle has been practising herbal medicine for 7yrs across the north west of England. Danielle is passionate and knowledgeable about supporting health and well-being with natural medicines. She treats a wide variety of health complaints and has a particular interest in women’s hormonal health. Danielle has worked with Kath Antonis Medical Herbalist at the Haven Leeds offering herbal medicine and nutritional advice to breast cancer patients. She also runs health and well-being courses and workshops. All Welcome. 

 

 

 

Monday 9th April 7pm Mary Akoo Gynaecologist Burnley General.

We are once again very happy to welcome Mary to talk informally about the menopause and some of the more intimate issues. All Welcome.

 

Our first evening session will be on Monday 5th March 7pm. We are happy to welcome Helen Lawrenson Lead Breast Care nurse and Andrea Cavendish advance nurse practitioner from the Breast Care Unit at Burnley General Hospital. They will be answering questions and chatting about the Follow Up Proceedure that is now in place and the new Breast Care and chemo unit opened at Burnley in December.

If you’ve had a breast care diagnosis and would like to know more about what the unit at Burnley General can help with please feel free to come along. Even if a support group isn’t something you feel you need maybe the information this evening will be of use to you now or in the future.

Monday 5th June Deb Butterworth from Trulife Breastcare will be coming to chat about the company and what they offer women after breast surgery. Deb will have a collection of bras, swimwear and prosthesis to look at, try and order on the night. All Welcome.

Monday 8th May Lorraine Hargreaves founder of Milly's Smiles and Mother of Milly will be talking to us about her beautiful daughter, her fight with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and Ward 84 at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. 

Lorraine and her team of helpers provide a welcome pack to each newly diagnosed family admitted to Ward 84, included in this pack is a rainbow elephant many of which have been knitted by ladies from RVBFs. All Welcome.

 

Monday 3rd April Kara Roberts from Lancashire Women's Centre will be coming to to our evening session to talk about all aspects of the centre at Accrington and what they offer. All Welcome.

 

 

Monday 6th March An Introduction to Meditation with Buddu Chill www.buddu.co.uk 

We are very excited to be welcoming back Janine Buddu Chill who will be introducing us to the art of Meditation.

Looking at what it is and how it can be incorporated into daily life. We will look at different techniques of Meditation including guided visualisation mindful colouring, the use of sound and how to use your own breath to alleviate stress and encourage a positive outlook on life, health and well being. All Welcome.

 

 

Monday 6th February Two Inspirational Women 7-9pm

After a couple of close relatives were diagnosed with breast cancer Anne Geldard felt she wanted to help in some way. not one to resist a challenge in her 70th Year she signed up to Ride to Tanzania organised by Women V Cancer and raised a staggering £6000! Anne will be talking about her adventure.

Michelle French decided to challenge herself by walking the 3 peaks! A feat by anyone's standards but having just completed treatment and surgery for breast cancer, this was exceptional! Michelle found the motivation to complete this challenge helped her through the darker days of her treatment schedule and helped her cope with some of the gruelling symptoms. As part of the team for Breast Cancer Now they raised £9000.

Monday 3rd October 7-9pm The H E A R T S Process.

Joanne Hughes a volunteer therapist at The Christie Manchester will be talking and demonstrating HEARTS (Hands on, Empathy, Aromas, Relaxation, Texture, Sound). The different aspects of HEARTS can be used in any combination for people who are anxious, find it difficult to relax or unable to sleep. HEARTS was designed to be used where conventional massage techniques were inappropriate and in any situation where well intentioned touch could be beneficial to the patient. All HEARTS treatments are given through a fabric covering so that patients remain clothed.

Monday 4th July 7-9pm Mindfulness Talk

Deborah Robinson from Bluebess Couselling will be coming to chat with the group and do some gentle mindfulness exercises.

Interest in mindfulness is ever growing with its uses and benefits in helping people who want to self-manage conditions such as anxiety, stress, pain, depression or illness. All welcome

Claire Thompson an independent Arbonne consultant will be delivering a workshop to discover how an holistic approach with a combination of massage, skincare, nutrition and cosmetics may be of benefit to anyone undergoing treatment or after their treatment. An overview of massage techniques to aid tiredness, stress, lymphoedema, general aches and pains and how to complement these with your skincare and nut ricin products. All welcome.

Introduction to Mindful Art Therapy

Nadine Tattersall 3rd Year MA Art Psychotherapy, Leeds Beckett University will be coming to work with our group. Art Therapy uses art making as a therapeutic tool towards the process of healing, clearing the mind and self expression.

All art materials are supplied and can be used freely throughout the session.

Andrea Cavendish Advances Nurse Practitioner

Andrea works along side breast care consultants at Burnley General Hospital. She is also involved in seeing patients on the wards and those having delayed reconstruction.
Andrea will talk about how the follow up process is changing to include an Information Day following surgery, a treatment summary appointment with the Consultant/BCN and nurse led follow up.

Fleur Lingerie & Swimwear....Janet Denton is an expert bra fitter working locally in Skipton she recognises the importance of a good fitting bra following breast surgery and stocks a full range of mastectomy products including the latest prosthesis and swimwear. Janet will be happy to chat with you and offer individual advice.
